The fall after I moved here the teachers had a strike over their benefits. When I heard what they wanted I was appalled. They were grieved over the school district wanting them to have their family members make a 3$ co-pay for Dr. visits & prescriptions. Their health bennies were completely paid by the district(tax payers) and all family covered at no cost.Their argument was they were professionals & only asking what they were due. I have never met a professional with such a generous benefit package. The people around here are mostly blue collar & without insurance. Teachers got what they wanted and no one seemed upset when I would ask them what they thought of it.
We have investigations going on over bribes made for teachers jobs. Applicants were allegedly making 10-20K payments to get hired. So things may be changing here.
I have heard enrollment going down in California because of the co-ed showers & bathrooms & sex ed classes.

I'm sorry I'm late commenting. I was out laying in a supply of scrapple & souse for the weekend.
I like the souse made with cured meat we get here in the north more than the plain.
Beks , was it you that said you would eat posole but not menudo? Did you know posole is made with pigs feet? Here in the north we make something similar to menudo called pepper pot soup.My grandmother used to make it , she washed it out in the laundry sink.
My mother is a fan of tongue, I would eat it as a kid if I hadn't watched her skinning it!I am from the heart of scrapple making country and have always requested it at super markets when we moved.
My mom cracked us all up after a trip to Louisianna , she brought back a jar of pickled pigs lips. I didn't try them.
My mother -in -law also loved to go visit friends at their ranch during castrating season. I don't remember what time of year that was.
One last comment , I have a Jewish cookbook , they are the kings of eating offal, the page on roasted bull penis is too much!

Employment for teachers is changing here.There are charter schools, private schools , cyber schools, tutoring businesses, and homeschool evaluators being employed by the private sector. I do not know if it has created lay-offs or if the growth in the public schools is just slowed down.Our schools have not had their budgets cut or needed to trim staff yet.

Gas at home, my husband works late, charcoal is too much to juggle.
I prefer a wood fire.I try to light that and spend a quiet evening talking around the fire & cooking.

I liked the one with the dogs that were hillbillies, I think one was a sheriff. Can't remember what the show was called.Anyone know that one?
